Harpoon Vermont Spruce Beer

WFMU's Beer Hear! with Bob W. and B.R. from 1/10/2012

While vacationing in N.H. and Maine over the holidays, we came across an interesting looking beer -- Harpoon's Vermont Spruce Tip beer, which is part of the 100 Barrel Series. We haven't had a lot of spruce beers. We actually made one many years ago, and it was probably the most undrinkable homebrew that we ever made! We used spruce extract, and the beer was pure Pine-Sol. Even after diluting it with light lager by a ratio of 10-to-1, it was still too potent. But the Harpoon Spruce is extremely well balanced. There's a hint of spruce aroma, plenty of spruce/pine/woodiness, but very enjoyable. Hear all about it on the podcast!
